Skiffle ist ein Musikstil, der in den 1920er Jahren in den USA als improvisierte Partymusik entstand und in den 1950ern in Großbritannien ein riesiges Revival erlebte; er kombiniert Jazz, Blues, Folk und Country mit einfachen, oft selbstgebauten Instrumenten wie Waschbrett, Teekistenbass und Mundharmonika, neben Gitarre und Banjo, und ebnete den Weg für die britische Rock-Revolution. Musiker wie Lonnie Donegan ("King of Skiffle") machten Skiffle zu einer weltweiten Bewegung, die viele Jugendliche inspirierte, selbst Musik zu machen – darunter spätere Rock-Ikonen wie die Beatles, Led Zeppelin und die Rolling Stones. Skiffle ist die Wiege des Englischen Beats.
Skiffle is a style of music that originated in the United States in the 1920s as improvised party music and experienced a huge revival in the United Kingdom in the 1950s. It combines jazz, blues, folk and country with simple, often homemade instruments such as washboards, tea chest basses and harmonicas, alongside guitars and banjos, and paved the way for the British rock revolution. Musicians such as Lonnie Donegan (‘King of Skiffle’) turned skiffle into a worldwide movement that inspired many young people to make music themselves – including later rock icons such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. Skiffle is the cradle of English beat.

Ulf Krüger wurde 1947 in Uelzen geboren. 1963 machte er als Mitglied der ‚Owl City Washboardmen sein erstes Skiffle Album. Danach spielte er in diversen Beat Kapellen, unter anderem im Hamburger Star – Club.
1969 gründete Krüger gemeinsam mit Freunden aus seiner Skiffle – Zeit die erfolgreiche ‚Onkel Pö‘ Hausband Leinemann . Gemeinsam mit ihrem Idol Lonnie Donegan, dem ‚King of Skiffle‘, machte die Band zwei große Deutschland Tourneen und zwei Alben. In den folgenden Jahrzehnten war Ulf Krüger als Autor und/oder Produzent an mehreren Hundert aufnahmen beteiligt, die auf Tonträgern erschienen, darunter zahlreiche Hits.
Ebenfalls wirkte er als DER Kenner des sogenannten Hamburg Sounds bei diversen Buch-, Film- und Ausstellungsprojekten mit. Er war viele Jahre lang Manager der Beatles Fotografin Astrid Kirchherr und Künstlerischer Leiter des renommierten John Lennon Talent Awards tätig. Krüger zählt zu den führenden Kennern und Fachleuten der frühen Beat-Zeit und der Hamburg-Days der Beatles, die er auch persönlich treffen und kennenlernen konnte.
Heute betätigt er sich in erster Linie als Urheber origineller Cartoons. In seinem Heimstudio produziert er zum eigenen Vergnügen Beat und Skiffle Aufnahmen, bei denen er sämtliche Instrumente spielt und alle Stimmen singt. Ulf Krüger was born in Uelzen in 1947. In 1963, he made his first skiffle album as a member of the Owl City Washboardmen. He then played in various beat bands, including at the Star Club in Hamburg.
In 1969, Krüger and friends from his skiffle days founded the successful Onkel Pö house band Leinemann. Together with their idol Lonnie Donegan, the King of Skiffle, the band went on two major tours of Germany and recorded two albums. In the following decades, Ulf Krüger was involved as an author and/or producer in several hundred recordings that appeared on sound carriers, including numerous hits.
He also contributed to various book, film, and exhibition projects as THE expert on the so-called Hamburg Sound. For many years, he was the manager of Beatles photographer Astrid Kirchherr and artistic director of the renowned John Lennon Talent Awards. Krüger is one of the leading experts on the early Beat era and the Beatles' Hamburg days, whom he also had the opportunity to meet and get to know personally.
Today, he is primarily active as the creator of original cartoons. In his home studio, he produces beat and skiffle recordings for his own enjoyment, playing all the instruments and singing all the vocals. Some of these recordings are now being released by EARLY BIRD: Ulf Krüger ‘Skiffle vol. 1’.
